MG MGA - Door Hinges - Poor Quality

Well I should have known better, especially when my local MG parts supplier said he does not stock door hinges due to quality issues. Searched e-bay and found hinges supplies by NOS locators, so before any purchase sent an e-mail asking about quality issues...no response.

Looked up MOSS and also sent an e-mail asking about quality issues. Received a response and was assured that current stock was good after some quality issues arose earlier this year.

The hinges arrived two days ago and have more free play than those on the car.

Two days ago I sent an e-mail to MOSS about the issue, however as of now they have not responded.

Hopefully in time Moss will respond and we can come to a suitable resolution.

Meanwhile, does anyone know of a source for good door hinges.

Moss USA, or Moss UK?
This problem has been around for quite some time. I thought it might have been resolved by now. Please let us know what you hear from Moss.

While the "fix" may seem simple enough, drilling out the parts and installing a larger hinge pin is a royal pain for most consumers. If you are going to do that, you might as well repair the original hinges. I would recommend always sending the faulty parts back so the vendor has to eat the problem. If you don't send the parts back, the vendor may likely continue to sell the faulty parts.

This issue may not be quite as bad as we may think. I have received some pictures and measurements of the hinge wiggle from Russell. I have made some engineering calculations of how this may affect the door assembly as a whole in service. My best estimate is that the looseness of the hinge pins may add about 1/32-inch of vertical motion to the back end of the door when you lift and drop it. I don't know if this is grounds for calling it a faulty part. I would install the hinges to see how they work in assembly.
