MG MGA - Dstributor base plate question
Just went to change points and found that the existing points were one unit with built in pivot arm. The base plate has a small dimple to hold that section in place (first image). The new points are "high quality" made in England and came disassembled and rely on a pivot arm on the base plate (second image). So what is my solution - buy "assembled" points or do I need to replace my upper base plate? - Ken |

It looks like you have a later 25D4 distributor, possibly from an MGB or similar. I'm guessing you ordered the points for a DM2. The simplest option is to buy a set of points for the 25D4. |

Dave - you're spot on! I purchased this 25d distributor from Advanced Distributors back in 2014. Never realized the base plates were different and I guess I've always just replaced the points with the fully assembled type that fit correctly. Neither Moss or Scarborough Faire catalogues refer to the points by distributor model, but I found a UK company, PowerSpark, that does and ordered a set from them. Thanks! - Ken |
