MG MGA - Eau d' MGA
I love the smell of petroleum products in the morning, but after a recent trip the smell of gasoline from my garage has become more prominent and persistent. Past episodes of this type were traced to the carbs, but I have since installed a Judson supercharger with a Holley carb. I've run it for a couple of years now with no problems. A quick check underside showed now obvious leaks in gas lines. Any advice on how to chase this down ? Thanks Chuck |

A lighter and a lot of life insurance? Sorry, I couldn't resist that. On a serious note, is it possible that it only leaks when you're accelerating, etc. and not when you idle? |

Just an idea: My gas leak was from the sending unit on the tank. fuel evaporated before hitting the floor. |

Did you recently fill up the tank? If you park in the garage on a cold day with a full tank, the fuel will expand in the warmer garage and push vapors out of the filler cap. |

Check the intake manifold. Under the bottom you will find a bolt that screws in. I have had a problem there in the past. Also good for draining excess fuel due to flooding. This is on the Judson intake not a standard MGA. |

Check at the banjo to the carb, I occasionally find a weep of fuel here - it-s VERY tight on space there. I would check the filler cap seal and the sender gasket. I have never sen any inlet manifold with a bolt as Jeff indicates, all the ones I have ever seen look like the one here http://www.clancy.ch/Judson%20Components.html |

Thanks for all of the advice ! I plan to put 'er up on jack stands over the holidays with the fuel pump pressured up to see if I can spot any leaks. Given the persistence of the smell, there has to be a slow leak somewhere. -Chuck |
