MG MGA - ebay MGA misnomer
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80750&item=4540245737&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW I thought that the tail lights on the above MGA were not used until 1960. This car is listed as a 1959 and also listed as a 1600 which I thought did not come until 1960. I bought a 1959 MGA in 1959 brand new from an MG dealer here in MI and mine was a 1500 and had the single lens tail light. I also recall that back then nobody liked the twin lens tail lights not did they like the horizontal ones. I n 1966 I bought a TwinCam (1959) and it had same tail lights as my other 1959. Maybe I'm all wet, tough remembering when you get this old. Greg & Grimm

Nothing wrong with that one. It's a 1600 Mk1 - same as my 1959 1600 Mk1 witht the same tail lights etc. Ian

I think the description is a little off the mark though. It's not exactly pristine in the engine bay or underneath and the statement of "no rust" is incorrect - that sure looks like rust on the battery tray. Don't know why they stuck that rubbish on the inside of the trunk lid either. It would make a good base for a real nice car though.

The quoted VIN 49408 would be a 1500. The first 1600 was 68851 as per. Clausager's Original MGA.

MGA's weren't sold as a "year model", Changes were made throughout the production at no regular interval. Cars were usually titled in their year of sale, as that year's model. Hence my "1961" 1600 (which was actually manufactured in the summer of '59). If they were new--the dealer called them by whatever year it currently was.

The fact remains that VIN 49408 would be a 1500, the car in question has 1600 tail lights and 1600 side lights. Looks like a nice car though.

Propably the product of a good car with no title and a rotted out relic with a good one. Easy enough to swap out the VIN plates--and presto--good car--good title.

Should not the 1600 have a vented valve cover?
