MG MGA - ebrake/ gearbox tunnel bracket
Hi All, I am missing one of the brackets that go inside the gearbox tunnel and is held in place by the ebrake bolts. It looks like it gives support to both the tunnel and the ebrake handle. Are the front and back of these brackets the same size? I haven't been able to find it in the moss catalog so was wondering if anyone has a spare kicking around or had a recommended used parts place. This is probably one of the first pieces to rust out or get trashed during a tear down so i dont know how many of them there would be out there. I keep checking ebay but no luck yet. thanks! Doug

Doug, the front and back brackets are identical. Mine were in rough shape and I reinforced them with fibreglass. I would think they are fairly easy to fabricate from sheet if you have to.

If you are talking about the 2 rectangular shaped pieces of sheet steel, they are the same. If I remember correctly, that they can be made afirly easily by forming some sheet metal. If these are the ones you are talking about, they provide some safety in the event that the u-joint fails. Without these, you could have an exciting moment or two if the front u-joint failed while driving. Chuck

Thanks for the feedback, Yes, it sounds like you all understood my description of the piece. I hadn't thought about the bracket as important from a safty perspective. that is a good point about the u-joint!!! i have one of the pieces so will go ahead and fabricate another. knowing they are the same will help out a lot. thanks for the help. doug
