MG MGA - electronic fuel pump

I have a second hand SU pump, which doesn't seem to work correctly. When connected to a 12V power source it vibrates a little and draws a steady current, unlike the conventional points type which oscillate and the power drawn goes off on etc.
Under the small circuit board is an aluminium head which is screwed on to the end of the diaphragm spindle and since screwed is adjustable. This head also has a small magnet in the top of it but of centre, as the threaded part for the spindle is in the centre. Also between the circuit board and the head is a forked plate which is held on one of the legs that holds the circuit board.
I feel there should be some means of setting this up to oscillate, any ideas any one?

RW - What you have is one of the new, all electronic fuel pumps from Burlen Fuel Systems (make of all things SU). Under a no load condition, these pumps will cycle at a very high rate, with a very high duty cycle (on period vs off period). When hooked up in the fuel system, the cycle slows considerable (still somewhat faster than the old points style pumps) and the duty cycle decreases greatly. Now that you have swung the fork all the way out, the pump won't run at all (as you have probably found out) and should not have power left on for more than a couple of minutes at a time. E-mail me at the above address and I'll send you the adjustment procedure for these pumps. Cheers - Dave
