MG MGA - Engine marking
my 1500 engine is topless at the moment and I can see a "3" which has been stamped on the block within a diamond shaped frame. The bores are much too smooth for an un-bored 1957 engine - does the mark relate ? R |

I do believe it is the inspectors stamp from the manufacture process. If the engine was bored oversize the oversize amount would be stamped at each cylinder. ie .010, etc. ... CR |

After boring at the factory, the bores were checked for tolerance and stamped with a number. The asssembler would then select the correct grade piston to suit the bore. |
