MG MGA - Engine mount rubber

I've just replaced the clutch in the MGA. All went well and as per usual when the engine was out I tidied things up and also replaced the engine mounts.

Now I get significant vibrations from the body work and its driving me nuts! The previous mounts were distorted with age and the brackets were bent slightly on both sides. I managed to straighten them to a reasonable standard.

The engine itself is very smooth and doesn't shake at idle or through the rev range.

I've heard that some of the current mount rubbers do not have the flexibility of the originals and that the rubber compound is too hard.

I purchased the mounts from a supplier in Victoria, Australia.

Any one have a recommendation for a supplier of good rubbers that may solve my problem?

The car is being shipped to Melbourne next week ready for the National Meeting in Tasmania at Easter and then a tour around the state. It would be good to get this resolved by then and enjoy a comfortable drive!

Whatever you do don't throw your old mounts away! I had exactly the same experience when I fitted my newly rebuilt 1800 engine. I tried various things but had a suspicion that my new Moss mountings were rather rigid. I rang number 1 MGA restorer/part supplier Bob West and he told me he did not know any supplier worldwide of decent mount rubbers, he was still hunting. He advised me to fit secondhand ones. I had a reasonable used one and I replaced one of the new ones and that did the trick. I have asked Bob the same questions a couple of times since and he says no decent ones available, although it is a couple of years ago I last asked. Sorry to be purveyor of bad news, but it isn't unique to you and your engine is ok.

Too late Paul the old mounts are long gone! They were all misshaped hence the reason to replace them.
I was reading on the Morris Minor site about the same problem with hard rubber mounts and some comments suggested drilling through the rubber to get more flexibility!

Not too sure about that.

By the way my current setup is old mounting on left and new on right this one old one new set up seems ok in stopping bad vibrations. This was not by design just which one I had in my scrap box.

Rebuilding my MGB engine at the moment. When I removed the mounts, the studs snapped on one of them. That one was iffy, anyway.

I did buy a new pair a few years back. I may try to find a good secondhand one instead.
