MG MGA - Engine Rebuild (Toronto)

Hi All,

I am about to pull my engine for a rebuild and will be installing it back with a supercharger.

Does anyone in my area have any recomendations as to a good engineering shop to do my machine work, including lead free conversion?

I am just outside of Toronto, Ontario but can obviously send the stuff a reasonable distance.

On a related note, would it be worth while buying a new alloy Moss head as they are already lead free compatable and have been ported, etc.

Thanks,

Roy.

Hi Roy. I am in Kitchener, Ontario, which is about 100 miles from Toronto. I can highly recommend Heimpel Automotive in Kitchener for ANY engine work you require. These guys will do whatever you need, from just basic machining, to a complete engine rebuild, or anything in between. These guys are pros, and have been in business for many year. I believe one of the staff members owns a Morgan 4/4. These folks rebuild all kinds of engines, automotive, marine, racing, diesel, air cooled and more. They bend over backwards to work with the customer, and are very helpful with regard to possible choices and options during any work being done. Their shop is large, clean, and well equipped. Their prices are reasonable compared with other local shops that I have dealt with, and their work is top notch! If you can't find a decent shop in the Toronto area, and dont mind travelling the distance, this place would likely meet with your approval. Hopefully you can find a good shop closer to your location. Good luck with the rebuild. Glenn.

Hi Roy, An aluminum head is a great thing to have with a supercharged engine as it will transfer the heat much better than iron. They are also less prone to cracking. I wold recommend some other modifications; use MGB 18V lifers and push rods, an early B timing case cover with a real seal, drill out he water passage holes in the top of the block per Burgess. Plan on modifing or replacing the distributor. If you use an MGB aluminim head, the top of the cylinder bores will need eyebrow to avoid valve/ block contact. Good luck and keep us posted. Bill
