MG MGA - engine storage

After replacing the 1500 in my car I set it aside in the corner of my garage. I did squirt some oil in the cylinders and turned it over a few times. Then I pretty much forgot about it. That was 2 years ago. As I am still waiting to find another car needing some restoration and an engine I would like to know what else I should or could do to store this engine.
Thanks

The engine should be OK in that state for some time as long as it is in a dry place. No Worries.

Kris,

It should be OK. When starting after a long period, run some oil down the pushrods to flood the cam lobes with oil. Remove the spark plugs and spin the engine with the starter motor until you get oil pressure for a while (new oil).

Kris if you have a concrete floor make sure you don't let it sit directly on the floor the sump will rust as the concrete absorbs moisture it happened to an engine i was given recently oil started coming through sump bottom

I rebuilt my engine using STP as assembly lube in 1982. It came out of hibernation in 2001 when the restoration was completed. I think I hand cranked it once in the 18+ years. I had rags stuffed in the intake / exhaust ports and plugs installed. No other special efforts were made. I now have over 8000 miles on it and all is going well.

I would not suggest that this should be normal, but properly lubed and protected......

YMMV
