MG MGA - Exhaust box for 1800 engine
Many of us have implanted 1800 engines into our MGAs and have gone to considerable lengths to set the ignition and carbs for these engines but how many of us address the exhaust system? I simply connected my MGA 1500 Falcon Stainless Steel system up to the new engine and adjusted the engine to run accordingly. My question: (From another thread, you may have read that I have just blown a baffle). What should I fit as a replacement? Should I fit a different box/muffler? After all the engine is some 20% larger capacity? Steve |

Hi Steve I've got a 2" bore centre pipe and Twin Cam rear silencer, if you have a 3 branch manifold, a Twin Cam centre pipe could be made to fit with a bit of cutting and welding Terry |

Steve I am waiting for a guarantee replacement from Falcon - the first box lasted 14 years, the second less than four. I'm becoming a big fan of lifetime warranties! If I was buying new, I think I'd now look at a different make. It's all very well getting a free replacement, but it's another job I'd rather do just once. |

Steve, I bought a whole system from Maniflow in Salisbury. They were very helpful, and talked me through the pros and cons of different materials, types of manifold, system and silencers and helped me to choose one that was best suited to my car's setup and my driving needs. I ended up going for one of their new Stage 2 manifolds and a single box system, as it offered better low down grunt compared to a standard large bore LCB. They might be worth contacting: Tel: (01722) 335378 Email: info@maniflow.co.uk kind regards, Grant |
