MG MGA - exhaust sytem

Hi, am looking for a new exhaust system for my 56 A. Double S Exhaust Systems has an aircraft quality stainless system available -- does anyone use this system on their A's? Moss also offers a stainless system, but not sure how it compares to the Double S. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks. Bobby.
Bobby

Mine has the Moss system as fitted by the PO in 1998 - no problems so far - mind you it has only done 10k miles - cheers Cam

Don't use the Falcon - I'm on my 3rd silencer in 5 years (albeit under guarantee)

I have the standard Moss front pipe (not stainless) with the double tipped Monza muffler from Moss, 11 years and 25k miles no problem.

Where can I get more information on the "Double S" exhaust system for the MGA? I was going to buy a stainless system, but I think Moss carries Falcon. On Barney's site, he mentions silencers from the Moss kit going out with regularity, but I just figured that was because he puts so many miles on his car. But if others are having the same trouble, I'll probably look elsewhere.

I think the MGOC in the UK are distibutors for double s. http://www.stainlesssteelexhausts.co.uk/

There is a dealer in Victoria, BC, Canada. Their number is 1-888-368-2537, or 250-475-1231, or email at mives@pacificcoast.net. http://www.doublesexhaust.com/cars.html

Hi again Bobby, perhaps I also ought to add that I had an MGOC system on my GT ( not sure if it was a double s)- it lasted 7 years (about 20k miles)but by then the noise was ear splitting and probaly illegal. They would not honour the lifetime guarantee because there was no perforation in the metal - just no sound absorbing material left in the back box (it was left hanging out like a long streamer) so it was just a hollow resonating can - make your own inferences from this - cheers Cam

Some time back (years) there was a thread (A? B?) on ss exhaust systems and someone posted a procedure for repacking the muffler. Maybe someone has bookmarked this and can share it? As I remember the bottom line was that you repacked the muffler every few years and the rest of the system lasted "forever".

Larry,
Repacking the Falcon muffler is covered on Barney Gaylord's site.

I have the same system as you, but a bit older and wonder when something will rust through...... the car is driven and relatively hard.

standard pipe as on car when purchased in 1979.

double tipped Monza muffler purchased about 1980.

no idea of miles, odometer counter is the only guage not functioning and have no use for it so have not repaired, it gives character to leave this as is.
