MG MGA - fener flares
I am starting to research fender flares for my MGA project.Does anyone have source recommendations for the flares and possibly for complete fiberglass fenders incomporating the flares? Thanks for any guidance! |

Kurt, how wide do you want to go? You might contact Kent Prather, I think he has a mould he uses for his fenders but I'm not certain. http://www.pratherracing.com/ Here's a photo of his car so you can see the size of his flares. |

Another shot showing the width of the flares better. |

Have you tried the MG Vintage Racer guys at MGVR.org? Ken |

Bill, Based on your suggestion, I have e-mailed Kent Pather to see if he has flares available. k v, I recently received the MGVR tech notes disc, and am hoping to have a chance to go thru it in the next couple of days. Thank you both for your suggestions! Kurt |

I recall reading, several years back, in an English car magazine an article about a modified MGA in which the fenders were widened by splitting them along the top, spreading them and welding in tapered sheet metal strips which were pointed at each end and widest (2" if memory serves)over the axles. It allowed for panel alignment with standard doors and looked very stock, with no "blister" type flaring. Area at headlights and valence retained factory dimension. The casual observer would never guess that it wasn't original and even an expert would have to look twice. Absolutely beautiful. |

If you're talking about a silver, V8 engined 'A, Marvin, I remember the article. I have the magazine stored away somewhere, too. And, yes, it does look nice and is very subtle. |

Marvin, Thanks for the idea! I have a spare fender in really poor condition, I may try to use your suggestion on it and see how it comes out. |

I believe that it was silver, Derek, and I think it had louvers on the side of the front fenders that looked like they were sourced from a BMW Z3. I gotta go rummage around and find that magazine. (Wish I were more organized) Let us know how it works out, Kurt. |

Marvin and Derek, I found two articles on the silver MGA I think you have been talking about. One article was in the June 2000 issue of MG World and the other article in the November 2001 Classic Cars issue. After looking at he photos, I agree that the fenders look great! I also realized that the workmanship to achieve them is waaaayyyy better than mine. I think I will have to go with add-on flares. |

I believe it was the Classic Cars issue that I have somewhere. And workmanship is beyond my abilties too but, hey, it's good to have something to aspire to and ain't they beauts? Good luck with your project. |
