MG MGA - Fire extinguisher location

For competition in Australia - hillclimbs, sprints etc we need a fire extinguisher fitted in the car, accessible by the driver from his seat but not in the driver's compartment. What is the recommended location for such? I was thinking of fixing it to the floor just in front of the passenger seat - using a couple of Tek screws (or bolts) into the wooden floor panel.

I don't compete so cannot comment from a rules point of view. But for every day motoring I have mine on top of the gearbox tunnelling with the nozzle just infront of the forward throw of gearstick. I guess for motorsport you carry quite a large cylinder so this might not be appropriate for you.

I will put a piccy on my site and provide a link shortly.

Hi Mike

The current CAMS requirement is as you say, but also ...to withstand 25G force - they strongly suggest a steel bracket secured by bolts and do not recommend screws at our meetings in Queensland. Hope that helps.
