MG MGA - Fitting MGB Clutch to MGA
I am planning to fit an MGA clutch to my MGA. The engine is an early 3 bearing B engine and the gearbox is the high starter standard MGA 1600 version. There is good info on the MGGuru site but it is all from the 1990s. I was wondering if anyone out there has done this more recently. In particular how much metal did you have to remove from gearbox casting, also which clutch did you use, and any other comments? Paul |

Paul, You will need to fit an MGB Gearbox front cover plate to your MGA gearbox and use the MGB clutch fork arm. You will need the correct spline clutch plate also (most MGB we’re not 10 spline (23?) as on many MGA gearboxes). Easing of the bell housing is just a function of the shape of the clutch cover plate and you may have clearance anyway. Regards Colin |
