MG MGA - Flame Thrower Distributor
Hi, I have a 1961 MGA 1600. Any experience with this distributor type ? Flame Thrower Performance Distributor Sold by Moss. Any comments on required ignition coil, spark plug wires, etc ? Thanks, |

I've sold a LOT of these! Its a good cheap replacement electronic distributor. The ignition curve is decent and they're a good functional unit. The shaft bushings are smaller and I suspect won't wear as well as a good stock replacement though. You MUST use a 3 Ohm coil with the pertronix or suffer premature failure. I've heard many people say they succesfully use the 2.8 Ohm Sport coil successfully however. I know a .8 Ohm coil will fry the module in no time, as will leaving the igntion on with the car shut off for a while. With that said, if you have a rebuildable stock distributor (which most are), a rebuild with a Pertronix will give you the stock appearance and decreased maintenance for about the same price. Jeff |
