MG MGA - Flat top pistons-rephrase
given the responses below about a source for flat top pistons, let me rephrase my question. I want to achieve a 9:1 or so compression, what is the best way to do that? Do I need to bore out to the 1622 piston size? |

T, The final compression ratio is a function of many variables during an engine rebuild. Find a good machine shop that does custom rebuilds. Rebuild the bare block and head the way you want, ported, big valves, big bore... Then, cc the head. This is done my measuring the volume inside the dome (with liquid) and then knowing the block height and stroke, select a piston to create the ratio you want, wether it is a dished, flat, or pop-up. Good luck with it. |
