MG MGA - Ford tractor generator with a tachometer drive
This was for sale in Ebay: Generator for Ford 2000, 3000, 4000 3cyl models 1965 and up with gas or diesel engines. Includes tachometer drive. Could this be used in an MGA with an MGB motor? (when there is no tachometer drive in the block). I would like to keep the original mechanical tacho. |

Should work with the proper cable made up and the drive pully the correct diameter as original. Using the early B electric tach is a lot easier, but they don't have that same 'movement' as a cable drive unit. |

Tomi. I had a generator driven tach many years ago on a Mark II Sprite. There was a brass piece that come off the end of the generator and to which the tach cable attached. This seized in use, ruined the cable and would have caused a problem with the back of the generator had I not hear the sudden howling and pulled over. Like Bill, I would prefer the electric tach to the generator driven one. Les |

If you keep searching through tractor parts, you will find many parts which are British in origin and may well work on our cars! |

Well, most of the tractor parts are on the TR sites, mostly under engine parts....... GTF |
