MG MGA - Fuel gauge sender replacement

Can anyone provide info on the sender unit available from Speedycables Wales

"An adjustable sender that matches the original characteristic with a (pressed steel) six hole fix is available from Speedy Cables Ltd in the UK.

There are two vaiants:

TBA9050-000 is the code for the earth return unit.
TBA9150-000 is the code for the insulated return unit."

Are these up to the mark as to use and reliability?

thanks

Insufficient information. The key characteristic of a fuel level sending unit is resistance range. The MGA needs something very close to 0-ohms when empty and 70-ohms when full. Ask the supplier for the sender resistance numbers.

Last year I replaced my faulty sender unit I purchased the replacement from Brown & Gammons it was more expensive (around £61) when I queried the price they said it was an OE spec not like some of the cheaper replacements . Since I fitted this unit ( and adjusted the fuel guage as per Barneys instructions)I have done some 4000 miles and the guage works perfectly. I did have to make sure the sender was earthed

When I bought my MGA, 3 years ago, the fuel gauge didn't work. After I had bought a cheap sender from Moss (didnt work), a so-called OE sender from Moss (didnt work), an original 50-tear old sender from Ebay (didnt work) I sent my Jaeger gauge to Speedy Cables and they provided me with a sender that works just great.

Neither of the senders I bought from Moss gave anything like the resistance ranges that Barney points out are required.

No idea what the Speedy reference number is (they said they would build one to suit my gauge if needed and maybe they did) but I can vouch for Speedy Cables.

Years ago, they also recalibrated my speedo when I built an MGB V8 conversion - but, assuming its the same firm, they were in North London then.

I can also vouch for Speedy Cables- they recalibrated my speedo after fitting the 5 speed gearbox. The Speedo came back looking like new
