MG MGA - Fuel pump leak

On Saturday, my A failed the MoT test with a leaking fuel pump. When I looked at it, it seems to be coming from between the pump and the diaphragm. I replaced the diaphragm a year or so ago so I think that is unlikely to have failed so soon.

My plan is to take it apart and inspect it and put it back together if it looks OK.

Can someone suggest a suitable sealer that is safe to use with fuel that will no damage the diaphragm.

thanks

Dan,

There is a drain hole at the bottom of the pump, on the solenoid side of the diaphragm.
If the fuel is coming from the drain hole the diaphragm must have failed (split).
If the leak is from the edge of the diaphragm it would appear that the screws joining the pump chamber body to the solenoid body are loose.
I would not use any sealant on a fuel pump.

I would agree with Mick, the problem is either a split diaphragm or loose screws, with loose screws being the most likely culprit. That said, I have had new diaphragms fail almost immediately upon installation, although that was due to a manufacturing flaw. No sealant is needed (in fact it is diacouraged) on the diaphragm although there is a gasket that goes between the diaphragm and the sandwich plate. The Burlen Fuel Systems part number is AUB 795 and the present price is £0.48. Good luck - Dave
