MG MGA - Fuel pump location
I am looking for some good pictures of the SU fuel pump installation in the MGA. I am trying to make up a pictorial essay of the original fuel pump location on various MG models. Pleas e-mail the pictures to me at the above address. Thank you - Dave |

If no one gets you the shot you're looking for, shoot me an email. I'll roll out the car tomorrow afternoon, and bring out the big camera. Can't put the A on a lift at the moment but I can still get the shot. The pump may not be new-looking but shouldn't be too bad. |

RJ - Thank you for the picture, it will go into my collection. Hopefully I'll get enough to put together a good perspective of how the pumps are installed that a new owner with an after market pump in the car can figure out how to mount an original SU pump. Steve - I would appreciate anything you can get. I'm not looking for pristine installations, just original. Cheers - Dave |

Hi David, This is how I have mine mounted. Of course I'll be taking it out again to clean up the points. John |

John - That is a beautiful shot. Thank you. That looks like a pretty new pump to be having problem with the points. I notice that you don't have a ground wire going to the ground lug on the coil housing flange. If the pump is sound mounted with rubber blocks on either side of the mounting plate, it is not getting a ground through the mounting bolts. This leaves fuel lines as the only thing that carries a ground to the pump - not a real good situation and may be contributing to your problems. I would suggest running a wire from the ground screw on the pump to a convenient on the frame of the car. If you continue to have a problem with the points, consider sending the pump to me for conversion to solid state (sometime after the first of October). See my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/index.html Cheers - Dave |

David, I have attached a photo of the SU pump on a mga twin cam. I know that you want a photo of the pump mounting from above and at the front of the pump, but this is just a preliminary photo. A photo of the mounting will follow in a few weeks. Mick |

I have attached a photo of a MGA Twin Cam fuel pump for those that are not aware of the pump type. It is fitted on many cars, including Jaguars. Mick |

Mick - That is a great shot. I will look forward to getting your other photo. If you would send it to me at ddubois@sinclair.net it will be a great help. We leave Sunday to go down to Southern California to visit my wife's folks and celebrate her mother's 89th birthday, then up to Sacramento to pack my 86 year old mother on a plane to Seattle, where our daughter will meet her and take her to their home, while we pack all of her belongings into a U haul van and bring them up to the Seattle area. We have an apartment for her in a local retirement home where she will be close to us where we can help her. With that schedule, an e-mailed picture has more of a chance of getting my attention than one on the BBS. Thank you - Dave |

Dave, if you plan to be down here on the 27th let me know. There is a car event you might want to attend. If you have time to meet up whenever you're in the area feel free to give a call! |

Steve - Thanks for the invitation. I think we will be at my in laws by the 27th, but don't know at the moment how the time will go. Everything about this years trip is having to be planned around moving my mother from Sacramento to a retirement home in Bremerton, close to us, so our trip is going to be rather convoluted this time around. I'll contact you when we find out how everything works out. Cheers - Dave |
