MG MGA - Full harness seat belt mounting - touring
Does anyone have photos or a sketch of full harness seat belt installations in an MGA without the installation of roll over protect bar to attach to. I am interested in both passenger and driver installation (long distance touring). I have access to a couple of sets of Schroth Rallye Cross 4 point harnesses. Mike |

MGA + Aussie Dirt Roads = New exhaust David |

Hi David, I am not sure if it is because of the euphoria I am feeling with Australia's position in the 1st Test against England (cricket to you guys in the US) but I don't see the relationship between your comment and 4 point seat belt installation! Mike |

Would seem David believes that Oz only has dirt roads plus no doubt houses on stilts , corks on hats and mangy dogs . He obviously considers based on this intimate colonial knowledge that you should be investing in a new exhaust system as a 1st priority ( forget the safety bit!) before you venture forth into the forbidding outback lunar landscape… Back on the subject I must admit I thought about full harness but when I saw them I thought of two things..I'd like to be able to tuck my head down in a roll ( and they almost preclude that but roll bar overcomes problem totally ) and also be able to get out asap. After due deliberation went the retractable route... |

I think it is wishful thinking to expect you will be able to tuck your head down in a roll. Any event violent enough to cause an MGA to roll, the G-forces will be in charge, not you. Not that I think there is anything wrong with your belt setup; I just don't think it will help you in that way. |

You may be right. ..and there is only one way to personally try it out. However for me.. psychologically ..to held rigid awaiting the guillotine chop is disconcerting ..I'd add a roll bar before fitting a full straightjacket as Mike has done . I would also think the car may be decelerating rapidly so there is a chance of some other forces to assist my duck dive….. |

I have a bolt in roll bar for competition - see http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/frame/fr304.htm But as you can see it prevents the hood from being used - it does rain sometimes in Oz (hopefully not during the 1st Test while we are in front) - so I do use the hood now and then. I not so worried about roll overs while touring but more for preventing facial injuries from traffic accidents. I would like to be able to use the 4 point harness both with and without the roll bar rather than the existing 3 point harness. Mike |
