MG MGA - gas tank placememnt
I took off my gas tank and when replacing it, I noticed that the end of the tank, closest to the seat (away from the rear of the car) was about 1 1/2-2 inche gap between the top of the tank and the underside of the car (3.75-5 cm). I hadn't noticed it when I removed the tank. Should the top of the tank abut up against the underside of the car or is this right? While I/m asking, should the fuel pump hang down from the bracket or be above the holding bolts? Thanks, Jack |

The fuel tank is slightly oval, not flat on top, and there is a space between the tank and the boot floor. Height of the tank in assembly is dictated by configuration of the straps supporting it. |

So as long as I have the straps as tight as possible, rolling the tank towards the rear of the car, thus opening up the side closest to the seats, then its all right? (sort of hard to describe which is the "front" of the tank (the side facing the rear) and the back of the tank (nearest the seats)) Jack |

Drain plug should be at lowest point on bottom. Why would you want to relocate the tank? |
Barney Gaylord |
Not really "relocating" but replacing, putting it back on. Does the space between the top of the tank and the floor of the boot seem right, based on the picture I sent? Jack |

Yes, it looks okay. Top clearance is about 5/8" at the back and at least 1-1/2" at front of the boot floor. |
