MG MGA - gauge bezel
Can anyone tell me what the hardened gunk under the chrome insturment bezel is or was? and what I can use to replace it? |

Charles it was a gasket. Easy to make a new one yourself. On one resto I used rubber 'O-rings' on all the instruments. Barry |

4" and 2" o-rings. Moss has them, as do the other suppliers. You might find them at your local hardware store also. I think they were originally square in profile, but the ones I got were the typical round type, and work fine. JIM in NH |

Thanks Barry it’s hard to believe at one time it was any kind of gasket at all. I was thinking it was some kind of pliable sealer to keep dirt out. Thinking about it now I guess plumbers putty would seal and allow for future removal. For the other two o-rings, one square that mounts the gauge to the dash and one very thin ring that goes between the glass and the reflection ring, I ordered ring cord from http://www.theoringstore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=117 and will have a try at making my own. Hi Charles - these gauge gaskets are on UK ebay at the moment - apparently they are the correct square section - cheers Cam (link below) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGA-MGB-MGC-midget-Instrument-Dash-Gaskets-correct-square-cut-section-/140607489949?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20bcdc079d#ht_500wt_1413 |
