MG MGA - Gearbox extension

Fitted new bronze bushing (as supplied by Greg Brown) in the gearbox extension and replaced the non existent spring and ball bearing to the lower shift ball joint, made new gaskets and couldn't get the gearshift to move at all. Took the gaskets out and put it back and could then engage the gears although they are a bit stiff mostly due to new parts needing to bed in I guess. Surely the thickness of the gaskets is not that critical to the operation of the gearshift? Any thoughts guys

I seem to recall the Moss-supplied gaskets were pretty thin.

I agree that you wouldn't think that gasket thickness is critical, however it seems to have an effect in your case.

Use some Loctite 515 rather than the gasket.

Thanks guys, will try the Loctite.

Worst comes to worst, if it leaks at least it's easy to get at.
