MG MGA - Gearbox oil question

I'm currently running straight 30W in my gearbox in the MGA. I have always had some noisy shifting, and it is admitedly probably time to pull it and do an overhaul....but...

I also run a T5 transmission in a Jeep and have recently benefited from a changover to Pennzoil Synchromesh lube in the T5. BIG difference in shifting smoothness...I never would have believed it. It was suggested in a Forum from a race tranny builder (Mustangs also use a version of the T5)

Has anybody run Pennzoil Synchromesh in your MGA tranny? It's a product that is specifically compatible with 'yellow metal' synchonizer parts.

Just curious...

I use the same oil I put in the car. 20w50.

Gearbox was designed to operate on engine oil!
