MG MGA - Generator Question
The pulley threads on my generator are shot, so I assume I need a completely new armature. In the mean time I have a spare generator I would like to use. My current generator is marked: 22700J 3 65 C40 1 12V The spare is marked: 22715K 45 - 78 C40-1 12V Will this generator work as a temporary replacement? Thanks. |

Even a guess? I want to get the car running today! If it helps, I was told this spare generator is for MGA/early MGB but I don't know how to confirm this. |

Steve - Yes, the 22715K will work in the MGA. I don't know what the rating of the original MGA generator was but the 22715K is a 22 amp unit and the physical size is the same. Cheers - Dave |

I think the original unit is 19 Amps. I'm going to go ahead and install the spare. Keep your fingers crossed I pass the smoke test! ;) |

Steve My reference book by P Olyslager says that the C40/1 was fitted to the 1600 frome engine number 16GA6272. Maximum output 19A at 13.5v at 1900-2150RPM. Steve |

The generator is installed and appears to be working properly. Thanks! |
