MG MGA - Good trim adhesive?
Hi folks. Well my 1500 roadster is slowly coming together. I am about ready to start installing the new carpetting. SOme will be installed using lift o dots, but there are some pieces of carpet that will need to be glued in. Living in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, my car sees a LOT of damp and wet. Can anyone recommend a good trim adhesive, (preferably waterproof) that is available where I live? Thanks, Glenn. |

Glenn, I like 3M spray trim adhesive. It's worked pretty good on my midget's door caps to hold the foam and vinyl in place. I seem to get the best results when I spray both areas to be joined, let the glue set a bit sort of like a contact cement and then press together. It does take some time to fully cure so be ready to apply pressure if necessary until it cures. |

Glenn, I used LePages WATER BASED contact cement, brushed on. This is great stuff, not messy like the solvent based cotact cement. Bob P. |

Glenn, Permatex makes a Headliner and Carpet adhesive ( Item # 27828) specifically for automotive use. Comes in a spray can. Available at auto stores. Cheers, Gerry |

Glenn, I've tried lots of them and for fitting carpet I've found the best to be DAP Weldwood Original in the red can. This is solvent based and sticks great on contact. In order to position the carpet over the floor cover most of the floor with paper and that can be pulled back slowly as you glue the carpet down. Once it's in contact it's hard to pull apart. Apply to both surfaces and allow to get dry/tacky. I've also used 3M spray adhesive and that's good for hard to reach areas, upholstery and headliners. Again spray 2 coats for best adhesiion. Andy |
