MG MGA - Graphics/Racing numbers in white circle...

Soon my car will be ready to drive and I would like to add a number to the car (not sure of the number yet). I am looking for good quality decals but I need help finding what I envision.

Can some of you racers point me in the right direction?

I included a sample.

Gerard, try most race car suppliers or even your local sign shop. Most can cut vinyl graphics for your car in any size and shape you want. You can also choose the font style you like for the numbers as well. If you can't find anything locally in St. Louis I can recommend these folks as giving good service. I use magnetic roundels on my midget, but won't work on the MGA unless you put them on the front fenders instead of the doors. Still leaves the boot and bonnet unnumbered though.

It is a photo I got from a Flickr group I joined. There are many many more...

Gerard,

A couple of suggestions for you-

As Bill recommended, I went to my local sign shop and paid about $130 about 5 years ago. This included installation which was tough due to the contours of the bonnet.

Also, If you are planning on running the original steel wheels which crack under racing conditions, I suggest that you instead find some mid 80's Saab 900 steel wheels. I found a set locally for about $25 each and they bolt right up. You may need to run wheel spacers in the rear depending on what series tires you run.

Have fun!

The trick to installing any sticker is to get a spray bottle (something from a household cleaner will do) and spray the back of the sticker with a very fine film of water before you start to stick it - you spray water onto the adhesive directly.

To apply the sticker, you then use a plastic blade, which allows you to squeeze out any bubbles and the water from under the sticker, and you are left with a perfect fit, no wrinkles at all. The water prevents the sticker from sticking until you apply the blade and pressure to squeeze out the water.

This works on vertical surfaces too.

My friends run a graphics business. They apply vinal decals to all sorts of things, like my "other" MG (photo). They use slight soapy water to get the perfect position.

Hi,

does anyone know a source of those magnetic roundels closer to home ?

Koen, any signage shop where they make the magnetic signs for commercial vehicle can sell you the bare material. I bought three square feed from a local sign shop, used an old LP for the template and drew and cut out the circles myself. I bought the vinyl numbers from the same shop and applied them myself after the roundels were cut. I had enough extra magnetic material from the excess to make backings for several smaller decals that are used on the wings and boot lid.
