MG MGA - Grease for Hubs and Bearings
I am getting ready to install new splined hubs and bearings ...what is the best Brand or Type of grease to use for this task..? |

For lubrication on splined hubs I use Devcon anti-sieze paste as is good for stainless steel spinner threads also - but any anti-sieze paste will be okay http://www.devcon.com/products/products.cfm?market=Maintenance%20%26%20Repair&family=Nickel%20Anti%2DSeize%20Lubricant Whatever you use, "use sparingly" apply and wipe off lightly - main purpose is to stop corrosion and make wheels easy to fit - if wheels are tightened properly movement between hub and wheel is minute. Thomas, You should use the correct high temperature bearing grease for the front wheel bearings. I use Castrol HTB (high temperature bearing) grease. This is especially important with front disc brakes that can transmit a lot of heat to the bearings. For the splines you can use an anti-seize product as Mike says or use the same HTB grease. Any excess must be wiped off before fitting the wheel. You do not want the high temperatures to cause grease to get on the discs. Mick |
