MG MGA - grease gun
Hi all can anyone remind me which is the correct grease gun for 1959 roadster 1500 please gordon |

I asked the same question in October. I got 2 answers:- 1. "There were a number of different Tecalemit grease guns. 2802 is one, 2801 and 2800 are others. I've seen them with a variety of different fittings. Not sure whether specific models went with specific cars -- I don't know of a map between dates and models. I suspect it was another case of "throw whatever we happen to have laying around into the boot". All the ones I've seen are a light metallic blue Hammerite finish with the end cap left unfinished." 2. "Derek, The Tecalemit GB2802 is correct for the MGA although I believe Enots were used during the early years. The one with a pointed end is more commonly found on machinery such as lathes, grinders, milling machines etc. The grease or heavy oil is injected into small oil holes created by centre drilling hence the 30 degree angled point. The more common types of GB2802 guns have either a plain end or one with a screw on fitting designed to be used on a standard grease nipple. This type has a small sprung loaded ball bearing valve to prevent leakage, especially if heavy oil is used. Having said that, they always leak anyway. Most owners keep the empty grease gun as a tool kit item for show, they are only small and a larger lever operated grease gun is much preferred when pumping grease into the front suspension. The original colour was a hammer finish light blue or turquoise which easily wears off. For what it's worth, Bob West in the UK still has a stock of original GB2802 grease guns so you can still obtain an original if needed." |
