MG MGA - Gunson experience
I went out and bought a gunson color-tune, since I wasn't as successful as I would have liked with the piston lifter method of mixture setting. It worked beautifully. Turns out the rear carb was one flat rich. Clearly visible through the clear plug -- a slight yellow cast to the flame. I leaned it out one flat and hey presto the flame turned blue. What's interesting is that I still couldn't discern any change in the engine note across the two settings when lifting the piston. And once the mixture was correct per the color-tune, lifting the piston didn't cause a "slight increase in engine note". It stayed pretty much the same, then fell off as I continued to raise the piston. So the car's running great, I have nice tan colored spark plug electrodes, and I can now Leave the Carbs Alone. Many thanks for all the advice. |
