MG MGA - Hats off to Barney Gaylord

Thanks Barney for what you have put together. I have been working on my 57 MGA coupe for 7 years, and it is ready to go on the road. Hear is my thanks to you; your web-site is one of the most shop related web-site on the internet. There is nothing I have not been able to find. Exp. wiring it's all there, convertion it's all there done no need to experiment you or some one has already gong through it. Need I say more?
YES
I hope this makes you fill good about your self, that is what I want you to do. If not for your web-sites I would be scracching my head & winding my watch (HAnm)

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks: Cliff Jones (SC)

Hear hear, let's hear it for Barney!

I definately agree. Barney and his web site are a great asset to the whole MGA community. It is the first place I look whenever I have a question.
Jeff Schultz

Personally, I can't say enough. Always willing to take time to answer questions and help (me at least) to analyze situations logically rather than rationalize them emotinnally (as a good engineer should do). Hopefully next time I'm in Naperville there will be an MG club meeting so I can drop by and say hi.

どもありがとうございます;Thank you very much!

I thought it should read "air e got toe gi zimez"
I would write it in Japanese but I can only do it this way. Thank You

and thank you Barney

Having recenyly purchased a '60 Coupe and a '60 Roadster for restoration I am just beginning this journey and from what I have seen on Barneu's site it figures to be a key tool in this process. I'm hoping it will still be around a couple of years from now, barring lightening strikes of course, when I'm up to my neck in the thick of it.

Why not a hard copy edition for sale, with yearly updates that could be added? I'm sure most of us could find a prominent place on our bookshelves for it right next to all the other indispensible MGA tomes.

Thank you in advance Barney.

The man with the MGA knowledge and the generosity to share all he knows with all of us. I've learned so much from your site and the emails you've sent to me answering my questions. Your help to me is a gift, and may the goodness of this gift be returned to you many times over. Thanks Barney.

Here, here. Another echo of praise for Barney. We're all fortunate that he has made such a resource of information available to us all.

And be grateful it will reside in the Internet Archive on into the future. Too many equally valuable sites have disappeared from the internet, but fortunately, the geeks behind the internet had the foresight to archive most of the material they found going onto their creation. Barney should have his site transferred into a book or series of PDF files so that any owner, internet-averse or shop librarian can always access his good info.

A big pat on the back for one of the truly herculean efforts by a lone MG(A) enthusiast. I guess you can say you know what Barney's passion is.

I wouldn't have my car on the road without Barney's website. I am continually amazed at how much information he has put there, as well as the high quality of that information.

Beyond that, I am totally blown away by Barney's tales of his travels. When I read about the lightning strike, I realized what I had been taking for granted and began to read sections that I hadn't before, purely because I was only previously using the site on a "what can you do for me now?" basis to answer my immediate restoration questions.

Stories such as how he pulled his engine in a motel parking lot, swapped out his broken crank for a new one on his way to GT-14 (http://www.mgaguru.com/tales/odyssey4.htm)
are really great reading and give you a whole new perspective on what can be done "on the road".

I don't think it's going to be converted to book form any time soon. Contents of the tech section alone from my web site, now more than 1000 web pages, when printed out single sided currently fills six 2-1/2 inch D-ring binders, and it's still growing and evolving. In hard copy it would have to be multiple volumes, not to leave out too much, and would be suddenly static.

If anyone wants to print a copy for their own use, I suggest leaving it in loose leaf form for easy updating. Alternately a flat screen computer terminal in your garage might be nice, as some of the existing pages are updated almost on a daily basis, as well as new pages being added.

It has always been my intent that this information should be forever free to MG enthusiasts. If it went to print it would probably have to be removed from the web site to give the books the best chance of selling in some volume. I really don't want to remove it from the the internet and hide it away from anyone who doesn't want to pay for the book(s). I have seen a few cases where this has happened with the tech content removed from a web site as soon as it was large enough to make one small book in print. You probably all know of a some prime examples.

Lets not upset the apple cart, Barney has the right idea (help the lost). It would have been a longer 7 years.

Barney:
Just listened to an interview where the term, "Guru" was defined in its original, unadulterated meaning. Means "Slayer of Darkness" I guess there are plenty here who would feel that is a just description of the meaning of your work. Just thought you would get a kick out of it. And, given the details of the exhaustive nature of your work, I guess it is truly a good thing that someone is archiving it! ;-)
Bob Muenchausen

I prefer the converse interpretation "Purveyor of Light", as in shining a light on the truth or providing knowledge where there once was darkness.
Barney Gaylord

"Purveyor of Light" or "Slayer of Darkness", doesn't matter, still sounds like the AntiLucas to me.
Jeff Schultz

Well, Barney, God knows there is enough Darkness in the world of MG mythology and "urban legend" handed down over the years to keep you busy during a long retirement, whether slaying darkness or shining a light.
Bob Muenchausen

I have an electrical problem that Barney is working on with me. He is always there to answer my emails and stupid questions with patients and courtesy.
What's slightly strange about this is HE is fixing my cars electrical problem and yet he is in Illinois and I am in Montreal Canada. Hell there are professional mechanics that can't fix your car....when you bring it right to their garage.

My hat's off to a man whom I greatly respect. Thank you. Gordon
