MG MGA - Headlamp rims
I have inherited two different headlamp rims with my MGA. Both have the same ID that matches the rim that retains the sealed beam, but one (the RH one in the pic)has a different section and a larger rear diameter by about 1/4". This one also has a larger flange inside the rear while the other is just turned over. The smaller one has a brass rivet at the top whereas the larger one is simply dimpled in that place. So which one is right? See pic |

The dimple is not original. The rounded section on the left in the photo is correct (the other is similar to that on the MGB) |

The dimpled one is a repro. I purchase two from Moss a few years back. |

So, if I buy one more from Moss, it will match the dimpled one? |

Art, This is Cecelia's advertising pitch for headlamp rims:- Brand New, set of two, beautiful high quality reproductions of the Lucas headlight rim part number 54520651. This rim fits the original 8" headlamp assembly as well as most reproduction 8" assemblies. As original, the rims are secured at the bottom with the included screws and securing "O" rings Correct Chromed Rivet The rim has the correct chromed rivet at the top as original. Other reproductions on the market just have a pressed "bump" on the top, which looks "OK" from across the street, but is obvious from close up. These have the same type of rivet as was original. Sold as a Set of Two These are sold as a PAIR OF TWO rims. Each quantity bought is for a set of two rims. These rims replace OEM MG (British Leyland) part number 17H5147, LUCAS part numbers 54520651 & 554439, and MOSS number 164-000 at $27.95 each! Do the math. Get two for the Moss price of one. ...............Mike |
