MG MGA - Headlight dust excluder
Has anyone fitted the dust excluder around the headlight. This is a thin rubber ring - p/n 3H2962, NC5 on page N5 of the original parts list. If you have fitted it, can you please confirm where it goes - the parts book shows it between the chrome rim and the headlight assy, but I'm trying to figure out how it would work as a dust excluder? The rubber gasket, NC11, is shown in the wrong palce on this page, so i'm wondering if the dust excluder is also in the wrong place. Thanks for your help. Peter. |

It fits snugly on the inner ring which holds the lamp, therefore inside the outer trim ring, making a seal. It did keep big chunks of crap out from behind the lamp unit, but it also built up mud and leaves that stayed wet and ate the the inner ring, and the retaining screw that hold the trim ring. Sometimes I found the trim ring full of mud up to the bottom of the lamp unit. Also, moisture that got back into the rear of the bucket never dried out, so everything else rusted away. It was very clear that cars with it had worse problems than those without, especially if not in constant use. Best off without it, IMHO. FRM |
