MG MGA - Headlight Rims
Does anyone have a pair of original (brass/w. top rivet)headlight rims that I can obtain? I know some reproductions are acceptable, and in a few cases, very good, but I am keeping all of the chrome original on this build iteration. Since they will be rechromed, it is just important that the rims are undented units. (sbrandtATrochesterDOTrrDOTcom) Thanks, Steve |

Steve, Don't have rims to offer, just a couple of points: 1. Some dents should not be a problem. A good plating house will remove those. 2. They will probably want the rivet and clip removed before plating. That means you may need to source a new chrome rivet and install it. That can be a bit of a challenge. Cheers, GTF |

Steve, Not sure what you mean when you say you are "keeping all of the chrome original". You should check out how much the rechroming is going to cost you. If you are rechroming good rims, you will probably outlay more then double what a good pair would cost from say Scarborough Faire. Cecilia's come with the rivet but not the clip. Thanks for the responses. I've had the car since 1966 and always planned to do a no-compromise rebuild at some point. When I say all original (re)chrome, that's exactly what I am doing. (And yes, it is very expensive, particularly since I also had an original luggage rack plated.) I replaced the original headlight rims sometime in the '70's with new BMC units from an MG dealer. (Wish I knew what I did with the originals...) However, at the time, the rims that the dealer was selling (although still brass)no longer had the rivet and tab and were sold as both MGB and MGA replacements (apparently ignoring the lower screw for the MGB). I still have those rims along with a set of dented MG TF rims that are identical to the original MGA style. Now knowing that the plating shop needs to have the rivet and tab removed for plating, I'll drill the rims I have and transfer the tab and rivet after plating. Now all I have to find is a source for the rivet. Thanks again for the inputs, Steve |

Steve, Just try to find a stainless rivet and polish it and it will look like chrome. John |
