MG MGA - Heater box labels
I'm fixing new labels to my heater box. What is the concensus for the correct positions for these? The "Original MGA" shows heater boxes on two different cars - one has the SMITHS label to the front, the other shows the SMITHS label to the back (on a twin cam car). This is not a critical point obviously, but I thought I'd try to get it right. Peter. |

Peter, If your heater box is original for the car then the label hole positions dictate which goes where. That is, for the push rod cars the CAUTION label with the wider hole spacing goes to the front and the SMITHS to the rear. I've just done mine and I wish you luck on stamping the SMITHS label, I ruined my first after spending ages on scraps of metal trying to judge the stamping force just right! The fact that the twin cam box label positions are reversed may have something to do with the inlet port being on the rhs instead of on the left for the push rod box.........................mike |

Just a suggestion. Rather than stamping, take to a jeweler and have it engraved. I had an engine plate for my TD engraved a few yaers ago and it still looks fine. Marvin |

Todd Clarke will stamp heater plates. He did a great job on mine. Jim |

Thanks for the advice on "stamping". Now does anyone else have an opinion on the label positions? LOL! Peter. |

Smiths label is to the back on my both original MkII heater box and period engine bay pictures. |

Peter, here's a shot of the heater on my MGA. No extra holes anywhere. Marvin

And another shot, Peter, of two spare heaters. Again, no extra holes anywhere. Marvin

Thanks Marvin. Please could you email to me the code and model details as I cannot make them out, even when zoomed in. Seeya at GT-35? Peter. |

Peter My labels are the same as Marvin's. These are my label label details, copied from the originals. I presume they are the same on all heaters? Steve |

Peter, I just looked at my three heaters. Interesting. The two spares are CODE FHR 2453, MODEL F275. The heater on my car is CODE FHR 2453/01, MODEL F275. I'll have to take a closer look for any difference, maybe someone knows. I just registered for the GT, see you there. Marvin |
