MG MGA - Heater control attachment to dash - I'm confused

I have recently had some troubles with my heater control valve - short story is I have now replaced the heater valve (and another cylinder head)! But I have had trouble getting the heater valve to operated properly.
Attached are some photos showing how the lever control assembly has been installed in my car. (Note in the top photo the fixing bolt on the left side of photo doesn't go through the adjuster plate - my fault when putting it back for this photo). Is this the correct layout of the lever arrangement for a RHD 1500? It looks different to that shown in the Parts Book sketch and the layout on the MGAguru site http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/heater/hr104.htm
My layout looks upside down to Barney's photo, also the outer cable fixing plate seems to be on the wrong side - in the book and in Barney's photo it appears to be on RH side of the car!
The cable on my car goes thru the fire wall hole marked HV on Barney's site http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/body/bd105.htm which is supposedly for LHD cars - is it the same for RHD cars?
Note my car has a separate Blower switch under the dash near the steering coloumn.
Is my layout correct or does anyone have any pictures of a typical RHD 1500 heater lever layout?
Regards
Mike

Attached is the relevant page from the 1500 Parts Book. Also my outer cable is black plastic over a braided wire tube - are the spiral metal wound outer cables as shown on Barney's photo still available - they seem less likely to be crushed with the cable clamp?

Mike, regarding your second post, the bare cables are available at any lawn mower shops...I just got the closest length, as they are available in many sizes.

Thanks Gary - that is one problem fixed.

Yes, it's upside down. My car is in my new garage 20 miles away (temporary arrangement) so I cannot have a quick peep at the moment. The cable routing should be the same on LHD/RHD - valve on same side of engine and fan housing remains the same.

My guess is that the push pull electric switch failed on your unit. The DPO investigated and split the fan switch to a separate unit. He then reinstalled the mechanical unit incorrectly.

Mike If I'm underatanding you correctly, the cable control unit I obtained from the States operates the wrong way round, ie for heat the lever needs to be slid to min. I thought I had it mounted upside down but it will only work as I have it. I'm used to it now so I don't worry about it. For what it's worth Sean

I have just been for a walk to clear my head. Sean is correct. With the unit upside down the heater selector will be working the other way round. If it is working correctly you probably have a non MGA heater valve on the engine - works the other way round.

In your pictures it also looks like the outer cable is too far through the clamp, which would restrict the movement. Here is an old original unit for comparison.

Neil & others, Can you confirm in the original, correct installation (1) the outer cable clamp of the adjuster is on the RH side of the car (2) the outer cable clamp is on the underside of the adjuster plate. If this is the case then the cable routing seems to be on the wrong side - heads towards the steering column on a RHD car then has to switch back to go through the firewall on the LH side as shown on Barney's firewall plan (sorry it is hard to describe this with out waving my hands around!)
