MG MGA - Heating Copper Washers
I have three new copper washers to use on the Banjo fitting for the clutch on the back of the M/C ....I was told I need to heat the copper washers up and then cool them in order make them seat properly.....is the accurate..? |

Not if they are new. Should already be annealed. |

Heat copper to glowing red, then quench it in water to anneal. Easy if you have a propane torch. Don't burn your garage down. JIM in NH |

Jim, To anneal, you heat and cool naturally. Heat and quench is to harden the copper. If you are not sure if it has already been done, it's no problem to re-anneal an already annealed washer. Paddy |

Paddy, Jim is right, did this quite often when I was in business... Siggi |

can acutally be either...but quenching is faster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annealing_%28metallurgy%29 JIM in NH |
