MG MGA - Help identify engine please.
I have acquired a parts car MGBGT with an drive train that I plan to use for an MGA but the engine does not have an engine plate. I am trying to find out if it is a GB, GF or GH block. The car is a 1968, ser. no. GHD4U/141144 G with casting numbers on the block, 12H1365, 12H1442, 12H1777, AF5 and three numbers in a "Y" pattern with a 6 in the upper left, a 5 in the upper right and 67 at the bottom. The number 5 is cast below the MOWOG name. I am fairly sure this is not the origional engine block but I would like to know for future parts purchase. Thanks for any help. John |

John, I recall reading that the triangular number array is the date code which in your case would be May or June of '67. The following quote is from a search on MGB Engine Numbers. "The 18 GB engine is a 5-main bearing, used from Oct 64-Nov 67." Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in. BOL, Doug |
