MG MGA - help identifying wheel

Dear all,

I've just gone through a conversion to wire wheels which has transformed my 1960 Mark I. Anyway, have decided to sell the original steel wheels and had them all laid out together for the photo when I noticed the spare did not match the other 4.

4 of them have oval holes which I think are correct but the spare has round holes which were found on later types. The curious thing is that the hub cap does not fit what used to be the spare wheel! I always thought there was only one size hubcap. Either this one wheel is not for an MGA, was incorrectly manufactured (!) or there are more than one size hub cap.

Please see photos.....

I would be grateful if anyone could clear this mystery up for me.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,
I have checked my copy of the Series MGA 1600 Parts List and it appears that the 1600 had two types of pressed disc wheel.

Part no. AHH8010 which was used up until car no. 91240,
when part no. AHH8003 was introduced for the all round disc brakes model.

Your odd wheel does not match either, so my guess is that it is from another MG car.

looks like a TR3-4 wheel to me.

Put a Triumph hub cap on it... That will fit !!!
FWIW: chrome wires were NEVER a factory option on ANY MG !!!

Jason,
Interesting, I also have a spare wheel, with round holes, that will not accept a standard hubcap. The tips for hubcap are about 8 1/2 inches apart while on the regular wheels they are about 7 1/2 inches apart. Also, the offset of the rim is much less then the regular wheels. However, it is a 15 inch wheel and does fit my MGA. My regular wheels are the oval hole type. It has been suggested by others that the odd wheel is from a Triumph but I've never been able to confirm that. I've owned this MGA for 30 years and I've never owned a Triumph.
