MG MGA - Hopeful Coupe
Looks like someone has seriously over valued their Mk2 coupe! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGA-TYPE-A-CLASSIC-CAR-2-DOOR-COUPE-10-000-SPENT_W0QQitemZ110183477419QQihZ001QQcategoryZ29757QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Appears to have a later MGB engine complete with anciliaries a big hole in the roof and no end of non original details (check the fuel gauge - obviously hasn't been to Barneys site!) Seems like a very ordinary, messed about non standard car for over 30 thousand US. Any takers? |

I wonder why he decided to either omit (or move) the choke knob? |
Malcolm Asquith |
I wonder what the big round black thin above the heater pipe between the carbs is? Perhaps it's some sort of auto-choke device. Also, there is what looks like a bare cable running from the throttle linkage direct to the accelerator pedal. |

Very optimistic asking price - probably worth half that - shame about the sunroof - no doubt someone thought it was good idea in the '70s - no sign of hub adaptors to take the wire wheels either - my son lives in Macclesfield might be worth a trip over to kick some tyres - cheers Cam |

Dan, A PCV valve (positive crankcase ventilation). Part of the emission system on later MG's, Mick |

Gordon, looks a bit like your old car! I think you could buy it just for the tool kit! Neil |
Neil McGurk |
Why does a car have to have all the original features to be worth a lot of money?? Alot of buyers do not want to be the same as hundreds of others and like to do what everyone did "originally" which was modify their cars. That said this car is not worth 15000 but it is not because of the non original bits that are on it! It is because it is a tidy MGA Mk 11 coupe and as such is worth about 10,000 IMO |
Bob (robert) "Hence he is considered a valued contributer on flame wars" quote by Wyatt |
I would say if you want to buy it, it is worth 10,000 and if you want to sell it, it is worth 15,000. |
James Johanski |
The truth is, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...which could very easily be more than YOU are willing to pay for it. If he can find someone willing to pay 15,000 then that IS what it's worth. |

Hi Neil, now there's a thought gordon |

It is a Mk 2 and there weren't a lot of Mk 2 coupes - less than 200 home market, so it is worth restoring. What is it worth? Easy - how much does a restoration cost? Subtract that from what it would be worth restored. The answer will be far lower than this guy is asking. |

So purely on scarcity value, it ought to be worth more than a Ferrari Enzo ;-) |
