MG MGA - How many 1600 RHD Mk 1's left?

I've taken a hefty deposit on my Duetto over the holiday so all being well will start to look for an A. I have decided I prefer the Mk1 style and do want disc front brakes so I beleive that limits me to years 59/61. So is there a register and how many are there. Any colour except for white (several for sale at present).

That limits you to a 1600 car, there are plenty of those. If you are in Nottingham, a very good bet would be Bob West near Pontefract. His stuff can always be relied on for quality. He has a very nice dark red one for sale on his website right now

Many 1500's have been already converted to disk brakes. Even if it hasn't been converted, I understand the MGB brake conversion is fairly simple although I still run 4 wheel drums. I had a 1600 that was fitted with 4 wheel drums somewhere along the way! Don't limit yourself to 1600's. Find the right car in the right condition at the right price and make the change to disk brakes if you then feel it is necessary.

Just my opinion,

Hi M J I would agree Bob West is the only place to go for a correctly done MGA and he only buys good ones, there are lots that look very shiney on top until ,like me you start crawling underneath and see great ugly patches welded o to the chassis etc.

Gordon's car may be for sale when he gets the Twin Cam! Shiney on the outside, shiney under the bonnet (never gets used!) and plenty of tool kits to die for.

Hi steve, I wouldn't say never, just rarely, and tool kits !!never!!! lol

Thanks for the info re car for sale at Bob West. I'm afraid well beyond my budget. A similar (on paper at least) US converted car sold on ebay for £12.5K, more in my price range. Said to the owner interested but I needed to sell mine first so will keep looking

Hi M J, I do know of a 1500 down here that someone I know in the Austin Healey Drivers club has almost finished rebuilding, it was a US import, bodywork all done and sprayed in red, engine/gearbox all done, needs retriming to finish, he has lost interest in doing it, as he is a big healey man really, so I know he would like to sell it now, he is also moving to France later in the year and does not want to take it with him, he has done a really nice job, good panel gaps etc, it's on disc wheels and drums all round though, let me know if it might be of interest and I'llput you in touch with him
