MG MGA - Idle speed

My idle starts off cold at a decent 600 rpm. When hot it is at an annoying 12-1300. If I adjust it hot it will stall when cold.
Any ideas?

I am experiencing a similar problem. Was wondering if its the choke sticking

Masses in the archives about it. I certainly used to suffer from it but hardly anything now. One of the observations is that friction with the heated parts can prevent the butterfly shaft from fully closing, possibly as a result of a weakened accelerator return spring below the carbs. Worn bushes in the shaft allowing air in is another cause.

For my part I solved it by increasing the tension on the springs at both ends of the common butterfly shaft.

Funny that my issue is exactly the opposite. The hotter the outside temperature the lower my MGA idles. On cold days the idle is always higher. I could use the tachometer as a substitute thermometer.

Dave, there's a good chance your car is running too rich with that behaviour.

Mark,
Thanks for the input. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try
one flat up for a few days. It's certainly hot enough here for a test - about 32C.
