MG MGA - Ignition warning light
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help please. I converted my MGA last year to negative earth & installed electronic ignition. I altered the wires on the regulator box as per MG Guru & all was well. I did notice that when the ignition was turned off, the ignition light stayed on. I found a link saying that if I flick the starter pull, this opened the points in the now unnecessary regulator. This worked fine for almost a year but this year, the light stays on & oddly only goes off when I turn the ignition on. The fuel pump is working all ok & the car starts but when I turn the ignition off, it happens again. At MG Live this year, due to this the battery was almost flat each morning. Does anyone have any ideas please? I'm pretty useless at electrics. Thanks in advance. |

Delete the control box entirely, or isolate the contacts in the cut-our rely. |

Hi Barney. I did see that in your technical spec. I understand taping the wires that have been moved together but what do I do with the other wire that goes to the ignition switch? Thanks |

How does changing the polarity make the regulator unnecessary? |

You have a bridge between two terminals on the regulator box (I had exactly this issue this week when changing a distributor and had hooked the timing light up to the terminal on the control box), or your regulator is faulty. check the wiring at the regulator that all is as it should be, no loose wires and everything according to the manual. |

I fitted an alternator at the same time. |

I have a similar set up. I have placed a piece of old credit card between the points inside the box. Should do the trick. Brian |

See last diagram at center of page here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/ac101.htm The second wire from ignition switch goes to the fuse block, supplies ignition coil and fuel pump, and the "green" fuse. |

Many thanks all. Brian, I did see that but I couldn't get the cover off without removal of the heater. Cheers Barney, I see what you mean, I'll try that tomorrow. |
