MG MGA - I'm all Ears

I recently switched from an aged set of painted wire wheels to mini-lite road wheels installed on my splined hubs. The earred wheel nuts (also aged)look peculiar on this new wheel style.

Would the octogonal(knock off)style wheel nuts be period correct for a 58 1500? They would definitely look much more appropriate......perhaps that's all that matters.

I believe octagon style nuts were used for cars exported to Germany, part no. AHH8008 and AHH8009

To my knowledge "octagon" wheel nuts were never used on MGA's, they came in with later MGB's and MGC's.

Fran, according to "Original MGA" by Clausager, page 58, commencing in October of 1958 (~car #57500) octagonal spinners were fit on Germany cars and subsequently for the Swiss. They had no MG logo on the spinners.

But I must ask, if you are running the mini-lites, why are tou worried about originality of the spinners? Just go with what you want. I agree that the octagonal nuts look better on them.
Chuck Schaefer

Chuck - Not really worried about originality; more interested in aesthetics. I appreciate that you concur with the Octogonals being a better look with these wheels. I was interested to learn about the application of the Octogonals. Mission accomplished

The mga twin cam and the Deluxe had the octagonal wheel nuts for cars exported to Germany (see image attached).
They would therefore be of the correct period, but the original nuts would be difficult to find. Also the locating taper on the Twin Cam and Deluxe nuts is different from the pushrod wire wheel. Remember also there are different threads per inch (TPI).
