P,

DVLA online shows:

Date of First Registration 18 10 1962

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

So the plate has not changed, ask them for keeper info and then ask the old owners.

Cheers
Mark.

If it was first registered in 1962 it should be a 1600cc. Can you tell us us the chassis number (on plate behind engine)and engine no ( on rhs of engine)

Of course it is date of _first_ registration. If it had not been previously registered (e.g. old stock or had not been registered for road use) then this could be correct.
Alternatively this registration could have been applied later to this car (in 1962).

I notice from the DVLA entry that you will be charged for the tax disc. Get it changed to be an Historic Vehicle and it will be free. Before you ask, yes, _you_do_need_ a tax disc even if the car is exempt.

The chassis number HDT2319862 indicates
H (MGA)
D (Roadster)
T (Tyrolite / Island Green)
2 (RHD export)
3 (cellulose)
no 19862

Dan Smithers

This would have been an early export car, probably to South Africa. Brought back to the UK and 'first registered' in 1962.

You may also be able to find out some previous owners and other history from the MGA Register of the MGCC. Have a look on the MGCC website.
