MG MGA - Inner Fender Louvers
Does anyone have a pattern (or even a good photo) for the inner fender louver sections used on a Twin Cam for exhausting engine compartment heat? I want to exhaust as much heat from the engine compartment as I can and that seems like it would be a fairly simple modification to do. Thanks.... |

These panels are still available |

Gene, If you buy the panels you should be aware that many being sold are incorrectly made. The louvers may be incorrectly punched only in one direction. An image of an incorrect panel is attached. Mick |

Gene, The correct panels are punched in both directions. Image attached. Mick |

Gene, A supplier of good panels is: http://www.kas-kilmartin.com.au This company is in Australia but they are sold by agents in most countries that have large numbers of MG's (such as the USA). An email to the company should give you a US source. Image attached. Mick |

Gene, If you decide to make your own panels there is a special tool. I do not know of a source for the tool. Image attached. Mick |

I had fender louvers made for me by Hot Rod Louvers http://rodlouvers.com/Standard-Louvered-panels-C180299.aspx I sent him a cardboard template showing the number, angle and direction of the louvers. I had to cut the shape out and bend the metal to match the contour of the fender, but it worked out fine Bill |

Wow, thanks all! I have a friend who is a wizard at metal working who should be able to punch the louvers for me...he's already tried double punching them so he knows he can do it. Since these are going into a car that didn't come with them (and is assembled and running now) can anyone vouch as to whether they actually help remove air from the compartment and keep it cooler? |

Mine were fitted as original build for the Twin Cam. I had occasion to remove them and left them off. i.e. a big cut out. No difference in temp at all. I don't know how this would compare to having no cut out, as pushrod car body, v's louvres. regards Colin |

They don't actually do much as far as cooling goes. Looke elsewhere for any significant cooling help - new radiator, sealing off around radiator, adding electric fan etc! The cars never have much trouble cooling when running at speed anyway, but can overheat stading still - and no amount of louvres will affect that condition. |

Bill, With AC my car runs hotter at speed than it does at idle. I think the electric pusher fan helps in this case. I am trying to get more heat out at speed. Gene |
