MG MGA - Interesting eBay item

Always on the look-out for a stablemate for my TD and this item 320231509084 is currently showing on eBay. The location in Florida is too far for me to contemplate but it might be of interest to board members.

That car looked beautiful, although the color isn't quite right I think, I did like it in combination with the tan interior. It sold for $17,300 and I'm surprised the owner let it go for that low price. The history of the car was totally documented with accompanying original manuals. Absolutely gorgeous, I even liked the buckle bonnet straps.

I'm looking to add a TD to keep my A company, how do you like yours? If you had a choice and money was no object would you keep the TD or go for a TC or a TF?

Perhaps the wrong forum, but I'm interested in the answer to that question too, as I am planning to get a TC (maybe even a TA - just because there could be one available)

I restored a basket case '52 TD from the ground up. Lots of work and money. After it was all done, I didn't care for it so I sold it. I've had 3 MGAs and a MGB. The TD is a nice looking car, but I would never have another one.

I started off with the MGTC. Thoroughly enjoyed it although I did not care too much for the Bishop Cam steering. The wife did not like the lack of a heater. The driver was okay though, with underfloor heating courtesy of the exhaust pipe.

I also had an MG PA 4-seater to totally rebuild. Interesting car and like many prewar MGs had an OHC engine, using a vertically mounted generator as the link between the crankshaft and the OHC.

The trouble I found with both these cars was keeping them clean. So many fiddly and awkward shaped panels. I invariably ended up with cut hands after a Sunday morning wash and polish session; the area between the bonnet and front wings being the usual culprit.

When I got the MGA to rebuild I decided enough was enough; I did not have the time to dedicate to the MGTC and the MGA. The TC went. I don't miss it. I much prefer the A for what I want out of historic motoring.

PS. Just in case I gave totally the wrong impression, this was my TC after a 72 hour reliability rally from Lands End to John O'Groats (986 miles travelled) in mid December 1996, often in sub zero conditions. The car did not skip one beat and gave a brilliant drive in the overall 1700 mile round trip in 6 days.

I was all in at the end of it though!
