MG MGA - Interlock cover plate backwards
So, what happens if you put that cover on backwards like they show in the shop manual? (Supposedly the shop manual has it depicted the wrong way around, with the bump at the rear instead of over the interlock arm.) The box I just pulled from the car had the cover the wrong way around, but you couldn't tell from the way it drove. I never paid attention to it since I hadn't ever opened that box up. |

Underneath that bump is the selector interlock arm. If the cover is backward it will sometimes interfere with full travel of the interlock arm, therefore making it difficult to select reverse gear. This is not always a problem, but if or when it bites you it bites big, because you have to R&R the engine and gearbox to fix it (assuming you actually figure out what the problem might be). |

Barney, I knew it would affect the interlock arm in some way, I just wasn't sure exactly how. That transmission did sometimes have trouble getting into reverse. Thanks for the info. |
